Psoriasis is usually defined as a kind of skin disorder, but actually it can affect the joints too which is called psoriasis arthritis. This isn’t a superficial skin disorder so although treatment should include psoriasis cream, the psoriasis cream will be just part of treatment rather than the complete treatment.

Psoriasis normally causes red, scaly patches to appear on your skin which can be really irritating. Wherever it appears, it usually takes on a scaly and silvery appearance as the affected skin builds up.

Skin cells normally go through a cycle of developing, maturing and shedding every month or so, but with psoriasis the new skin production becomes greatly increased. Most commonly affected areas are elbows, knees, fingernails, scalp, arms, legs and back, but actually any area is vulnerable.

One thing to remember, is that psoriasis is not contagious. Psoriasis is believed to be partially genetic, but it has a few well known triggers or aggravators. These include stress, smoking and excessive use of alcohol. Food allergies and nutritional deficiencies may also form a significant role as triggers, as may a reaction to certain drugs, or an accumulation of toxins in the colon.

Psoriasis cream forms a large part of the treatment, but bearing in mind that the triggers could be internal rather than an external infection, paying attention to a healthy diet and lifestyle should be an integral part of the treatment.

Psoriasis cream is produced by a number of companies, including manufacturers of herbal and natural products, and can be used together with psoriasis oils, natural soaps and cleansing products.

Among some of the effective brands, is a Dead Sea salt psoriasis cream, which contains minerals and nutrients from the mineral-rich Dead Sea, now so famous for its health treatments.

Psoriasis cream is readily available; but it may be advisable to consult a doctor or skin specialist to identify the type of psoriasis affecting you. There are five types:

Plaque psoriasis which probably accounts for up to 80% of occurrences and has the appearance of red, inflamed lesions, covered by the silvery-white scales.

Guttate psoriasis appears in small, red spots, and often occurs in childhood.

Inverse psoriasis appears in the areas like ears, armpits, groin, breasts and buttocks. and is deep red, smooth and shiny with a moist white surface.

Pustular psoriasis which appears as white, pus-filled blisters over red skin.

Erythrodermic psoriasis where large areas become severely red and inflamed, and may be painful and extremely itchy.

Applying the psoriasis cream is the most soothing and welcoming part of the treatment, but you must check with a doctor to make sure you have the right psoriasis cream for your type of psoriasis.
